Heirloom
Bags
-
An idea that our physical connections are an essential element of our experience in the world. As the bags pass from person to person they serve as a common thread weaving the unique to the universal.
Each bag is accompanied by a journal that passes along it in which participants may document their time with it. Bag holders may also contribute pictures or stories to a bag’s individual web page.
-
Participants sign up and when a bag is ready for them they are notified where and when to pick it up, which will usually be at an artisan market or some other public event.
During your time with the bag use it however and as much as you like. The point is that for a time it becomes a part of your story, and in doing so, its own story is enriched by sharing in your own unique experience.
When the time comes for you to pass the bag along you will be informed where to bring it, which again, will be a public event or venue.
-
There is no charge to participate. We appreciate photos and/or stories of your time with the bag so we can see what its been up to with you. We hope you’ll share some thoughts in the journal. Perhaps you can leave something in the bag when it’s time to pass it on for the next bag holder, maybe something you have made or discovered that has meaning or significance for you. But nothing is expected other than openness to new experience.

-
It is used solely to contact you regarding the Heirloom Bag you sign up for. Feel free to use a pseudonym, alias, alter ego, whatever you want. I just need a way to contact you.
I may send out information from time to time about the Heirloom Bags that may be of interest to those who sign up. However, I will NEVER try to sell you anything and I will NEVER share your information with another party.
-
Life leaves marks. When it comes time to pass along the bag it will not look exactly the same as it did when it came to you. That is the point. If something truly catastrophic happens to it, well, …I bet at least there’s a damn good story that goes along with it.
These bags weren’t made to sit on a shelf and gather dust. Neither are you.
-
Then we may not see it again. Each bag is a significant investment in time and materials, but its story is the real treasure. That can’t be replaced. Actually, its story might get really interesting at that point, however , we won’t know it if it’s lost to us. I just ask that while the bag is in your care you treat it like anything else you have and don’t want to lose.
-
Nothing. Also, karma.
If someone takes a bag with no intention of returning it, then I weep for them. Willfully breaking a chain of connection like this would incur a karmic debt no one should bear.
-
This is all a work in progress. I have considered many of the details, but I’ve found that theory and practice often don’t exist in the same reality. Therefore, the logistics may shift and evolve, but the intent will remain the same; to put something out into the world that in some way enriches our experience of it.
Cafe companion. Adventure sidekick. Partner in crime. Keep it for a while and show it a good time.
Then pass it along.
The magic of personal connection, rooted in the real world.
